Vintage 1920’s Sargent Nickel Entry Door Set – “Marion”

This set is featured in Sargent’s 1910 Artistic Hardware catalog and they named the pattern “Marion”. It is a very elegant high quality set made of solid nickel. The signed Sargent lock bears a patent number which dates the lock manufacture as after 1919 so this set would be dated in the 1920’s.

The lock is in excellent condition and works perfectly. Based upon the length of the thumb turn rod and lock cylinder this set fits a door 1-1/2” to 2” thick. There are some dings on the lock face as would be expected with these old locks. All of the nickel is a medium silver color except for the thumb turn which has more shine. The photos of the pieces on the lock are truer for color. The ring for the lock cylinder has prongs on the back to keep it from rotating once the lock cylinder is screwed into the lock. The deadbolt is thrown with the lock cylinder from the outside and the thumb turn from the inside. There are no keys included but any locksmith can make as many keys as you need. The lock is reversible for a right or left hand door. Just open the lock casing and flip the strike over. The strike plate is not original to this set and is brass. One side has patina and the other has been polished. Whichever side you end up using it will soon gain patina and not be so obvious that it is a different metal.
