With its shiny nickel dome and pristine painted cast iron base this bell is ready to install! This bell does not have a “gong” sound but rather a burring ring like the twist doorbells. It is operated by a chain or wire that can either hang down by itself or go through your wall as the lower example in the hardware catalog photo indicates. It rings once with the downward pull and again when released. Using the “through the wall” option you may need to install an additional spring on the exterior pull – depending on how far away the pull is located. Note: The chain shown in the main photo is for display only and is not included.

This bell was likely made around 1905 – 1910 and has been taken apart and restored. The cast iron base had all rust and old paint removed and was primed and painted a gloss black. As a final touch even the antique mounting screws have black painted heads! The nickel plated brass dome has very little wear and does not have any gold tones. It’s so shiny that it picked up all the yellow lights in the room when I took the photo.

An interesting feature of this bell is that tightening the dome completely effective turns the doorbell “off”.  It doesn’t ring but gives a quiet chatter instead. Sometimes you just need a little privacy :o)

Bell base 3-7/8” diameter (not including screw hole tabs)
