Unusual Antique Door Escutcheon with Faux Alligator Detailing

The detail on this cast iron door plate is very finely done and quite unusual. The border has a very ornate Egg & Dart design and the center field background resembles alligator leather! Note the additional detail around the doorknob collar.  

This plate is made of heavy cast iron, not pressed steel. It is in exceptional condition with an almost black iron patina.
