If you are looking for an unusual conversation piece or trying to find a rim lock to suit early colonial architecture, this set is for you!  Although suitable for home use this hardware was most likely used on an opulent railroad coach originally.  During the 1800’s railroad travel served the very rich and no expense was too great for their aesthetic comfort! While the dainty detailing on the lock makes an elegant statement, the other side of the door is really unusual!  Rather than a standard round or oval knob the door is opened by turning the large grip which is sized for two fingers.  The depression in the oval plate keeps knuckles from rubbing.

Made of solid brass the set has darkened to an almost black patina.  Polish as much as you like or leave “as is”. There is a sliding finger latch on the lock side that engages a deadbolt for privacy.  For the other side of the door note that the keyhole has never been punched out of the doorplate!  The locking mechanism is operated by a barrel key from that side rather than a standard skeleton key.  Should you wish to punch out the keyhole, I’ve provided a key which operates this lock.

This lock is not reversible and is for a left hand door only.  (Go to FAQ to determine the hand of your door)  The keeper (catch) has been lost over the years but a plain brass reproduction is easily found.
