Simple yet elegant this lovely bell is right at home with any architecture! Made in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s it remains in exceptionally good condition. The ribbed cast iron base has only a couple of small areas where the original varnish is missing and the nickel plated brass dome is still shiny silver with only minor wear to boast its authenticity. A hearty GONG can be heard throughout the house!

The bell mechanism was patented on April 28, 1874 as noted on the back. The patent was issued to John P. Connell of Kennsington, Connecticut and a copy of that patent will be emailed to the purchaser of this doorbell. The mechanism of this bell is slightly different than the drawing shows since it was common practice to make modifications under the original patent. Creative license I guess :o)

Photos note: The wear to brass on the bell dome is nowhere near as pronounced as it appears in the photo. It is barely noticeable “in person” and the silver also has more shine. Any red cast is due to the camera – not rust.

This bell can be operated by the middle or bottom methods shown in the hardware catalog photo. I’ve indicated in red where the operators would attach. The chain or wire would come out the bottom of the bell between the dome and the base. You can also have a chain to ring the bell from inside the house – alone or with the outside lever. All of the levers offered individually here will fit this bell. This bell has extremely strong springs and you would not need an additional spring with a bell pull.

This bell operates perfectly and there are no breaks, cracks, chips or repairs. Antique steel slotted mounting screws are included but not pictured.

Bell 4-5/8” diameter (excluding screw tabs)
