Set of 4 Rare Circa 1867 Cast Iron Rack Pulleys

Made of strong cast iron with worn bronze plating, these rack pulleys bear their patent date of June 25, 1867 proudly on the front for all to see!  A copy of that patent, where they are referred to as a Spring Shade-Rack, is included with this purchase. There is a bit of surface rust here and there but nothing a little oil won’t fix. The springs are still very strong.

That being said, I have to admit that I have no idea how these were used - even with the patent! I presume they were used with what we now call window shades based upon my antique hardware catalog.  Similar items are shown in the window hardware section and there are shade brackets on the same page.
