When I received these sash locks they were little more than globs of paint.  As the paint was carefully removed imagine my delight to find these treasures!  Most times this style lock is found in all dark cast iron and cast iron with a brass grip.  These feature what is known as a bronze wash (plating) on the high parts with black enamel in the recesses.  The bronze is worn in varying degrees and there is some loss of the black enamel but they are still a joy to behold!  Sadly, the catches were not covered by thick paint to protect them and they are all a dark iron patina.

These locks were patented in October of 1883 and the feathers on the pivoting arm resemble an eagle claw.   These locks have a clever dual action lock function.  The catch is first aligned and then another turn cinches it in place.  For a detailed explanation of the locking function go to WL1014  Locks have been oiled and all but one operate perfectly.  One (seen in photo) still locks but does not perform the cinching function.  I haven’t taken photos of all the catches because they are all identical.  The color shown in the main photo is representative of their patina.  Side view flash makes them appear lighter.

The above price is for one set of 14 latches with catches.

Lock measures 2” wide x 1-1/4” deep (maximum dimension)
