For the do-it-yourself enthusiast or those looking for a primitive look, this antique set was made by Sargent & Co. around 1910 in their Alby pattern. Lots of undulating detail in the Art Nouveau style. Either restore to your liking or leave “as is” for rustic appeal. I have another set of these knobs and plates that have been restored. Enter the keyword Alby in the Search box to your left to see them.
The pieces are made of wrought steel with surface rust and old paint. Please note that paint on antique hardware is most likely lead based. One knob is shinier due to many hands turning it over the years. Rubbing the other knob with oil can produce the same effect. The knobs have slightly different length shafts as can be seen in the photo. The lock (with a cast iron casing) should probably be taken apart and cleaned but has been opened to oil it and works perfectly. Although there are no markings on the lock, since it was found with the door hardware it is probably by Sargent. Set screws insert easily into all holes for door thickness adjustments. I found an old brass strike plate (has been cut) in my inventory and will include it as an extra.
