This is a hard mortise lock to find – especially with the matching strike plate! This is the only manufacturer I know of that created a lock with a rounded top and bottom. Lots easier to create the mortise for the face plate (use a paddle bit) and Russell & Erwin patented the design May 1, 1900 as inscribed on the strike plate. The lock itself bears patent dates of Jan 29 and June 11, 1889.

The lock and strike plate are made of wrought steel with worn brass plating. The lock has been taken apart, cleaned and operates perfectly. This lock is reversible for right or left hand doors. You just open the casing and flip the strike over. I do not have a key for this lock so if you wish to use the deadbolt function you will need to have your local locksmith make one. I guarantee the deadbolt works as it should with the correct key.

The strike plate was cut some time in the past which was a common practice. Rather than re-working the door when the house settled it was far easier to just cut the strike plate to fit. Not to be considered a flaw since it makes it easier to install.

Faceplate: 7/8” x 5-3/8”
