This door bolt was made by Sargent & Co. in 1884 and has been completely restored. The new high gloss black lacquer really makes the flowers and Eastlake geometrics just POP out!

A substantial amount of time and materials was required to restore this bolt to its former beauty. All old paint, rust and remaining black japanned paint was removed on each separate piece. The parts were then primed and painted with high grade automotive lacquer. The top casing shows primer on the interior and sports 4 coats of lacquer on the exterior. The flat base has 2 coats of lacquer on both front and back. The strike has a black lacquer finish on the bottom portion with clear lacquer on the upper strike area to protect from any future rust.

These bolts were used to secure the stationary half of a double door at the top but could be used anywhere a bit of security is needed. The bolt is spring loaded and is pulled down by the chain or cord (not included) to release the door. The strike is currently set for a reverse bevel that works with a strike plate as shown in the old hardware catalog photo. You can obtain this part at your hardware store. The bevel can be reversed by simply flipping the strike over if you choose.

Casing portion of the bolt measures 2” x 6-3/4” (max)
