Rare Greek Warrior Bronze Doorknob - Circa 1882

A rare and beautiful Neo-Greek figural doorknob dating from 1882.  This Greek profile pattern was produced by Mallory Wheeler in heavy cast bronze with phenomenal detailing.  A Greek key pattern surrounds the warrior head, which is thoroughly detailed.  This knob has not been cleaned and retains its original patina.  A real collector item but please don’t hesitate to use it on your stately historic mansion!

Sadly, some time in the past, a harsh tool of some kind was used around the shaft where it meets the knob portion. There is some scraping of the metal and I’ve provided photos going along the entire perimeter so you can see it. There are also a few flecks of paint in the same area. Installed it would not be visible and doesn’t feel at all like sharp metal when the door knob is grasped.  There is also a nick at the warrior’s neck with some verdigris in the crevice.  Unfortunately my camera wants to make the knob appear to have verdigris on the front of the knob but in person it doesn’t. The knob is actually a solid dark bronze color.
