Rare Antique Cast Bronze Letter Slot – Branford “Ivy” Design

This late 1800’s cast bronze mail slot was made by Branford Lock Works in their “Ivy” design line.  Branford made an entire line of ornamental hardware with this design element of tiny leaves as a field pattern. The fine quality bronze art work shows throughout from the unusual shape to the pots of foliage at each end. Be sure to enlarge the photos to see all the fine detail! If I had to choose a favorite manufacturer of Victorian hardware, Branford would be my choice. This is a stunning piece of hardware for your front door!

The flap opens outward so that wind will not gust through the opening. A great way to get your mail and keep the house warm as well!

Made of thick solid bronze and the high parts of the design have been polished slightly to promote the detail. The recessed areas remain dark – as they originally were. Patina is best represented by the main photo.  This type of mail slot was not made with a spring and closes via gravity. Bronze antique screws with patina are included for mounting.
