WOW! What a find! Made around the turn of the century, this plate allows for an old receptacle plug, a push button light switch and a faceted dark red glass button to allow light to sparkle through. A light would be installed behind the “ruby” and would let you find the plate in the dark or would be lighted when the light switch was in the “on” position if the light it controlled was in another location. Each way would be dependent on how the little light was wired.
I wasn’t able to photograph the glass to its best advantage. Just laying on the table it catches the light for a dark blood red sparkle. I cannot feel a single flea bite on the glass. The plate is made of heavy cast brass and the glass is firmly in place. The only issue I note is a small area of corrosion. I suspect that this plate was never installed.
I have some newer recessed night light devices that would work for behind the red glass. Go to
