Although the black glazed knobs were used frequently these smaller 2 diameter knobs are very hard to find. To find them in such premium condition is even more unusual. They still have a blush of the original bronze wash on the iron shafts. Perfect for a pantry or screen door or anywhere a small knob is desired. These black glazed knobs were frequently used with ornamental hardware in the late 1800s and their use continued into the early 20th century. They are sometimes incorrectly referred to as porcelain which is a white base. This kind of knob is made of red mineral clay that was formed around the shaft and then glazed a shiny black. They are all in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and only very light scratching which is normal for so many years of use. Holes in the spindles have been tapped for new set screws made specifically for antique doorknobs. This allows an effortless installation.
