Sometimes known as Ebony, Jet or Aradh knobs, these glossy black doorknobs are made of red mineral clay that has a thick black glaze - similar to a ceramic item. These knobs are for use with an antique rim lock and were used from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s. The flared shaft goes against the surface mounted lock and the straight shaft goes in a rosette for the other side of the door. Steel spindle with original set screws is included. Screws insert easily into all holes for adjustment.

The photo is representative of the doorknob sets available. One knob will always be flared but the flare configuration might be slightly different. The shafts may be with black paint or stripped iron (and all points in between).  If you want very primitive with pitted rust, let me know in the Comments section. I have one set like that. Some knobs may have a tiny flea bite or two where the red clay can be seen.  Some like being able to see the base red clay material through these little “windows”.  If the knobs you receive have any and you don’t want them to be seen a little speck of black paint will cover them up. Some will have small glaze skips or manufacturing irregularities.  All knobs will show wear that is consistent with their age but there are no large chips or deep scratches on any.

Diameter 2-1/4” (generally)
