These black glazed knobs were frequently used with ornamental hardware in the late 1800’s and their use continued into the early 20th century. They are sometimes incorrectly referred to as porcelain – which is a white base. This kind of knob is made of red mineral clay that was formed around the shaft and then glazed a shiny black. Hardware manufacturers referred to them as Jet, Ebony, Aradh, or simply mineral clay. If you’re curious about what they look like inside I’ve included a photo of one that was broken in half.
These knobs are sold by the pair and include a steel spindle with set screws. The above price is for one pair of knobs and the number In Stock indicates how many pair are available. When considering the price remember that they are very heavy and shipping is free to you. They are all in very good condition with no chips or cracks and only very light scratching which is normal for so many years of use.
Diameter 2-1/4”
Shaft is 11/16” diameter
