P F Corbin Ceylon Door Plate Escutcheons

These heavy bronze escutcheons were made by P & F Corbin and are featured in their 1895 hardware catalog.  The named design, Ceylon, has a fantastic mix of geometrics and flowers.  The plates were also used with other doorknob patterns so don’t restrict them to just the Ceylon knobs!

The base of the plates is made of cast bronze and the doorknob collar is wrought bronze.  As you can see from the group photo there are various levels of patina and coloration since they would have aged differently.  The high portions have been polished slightly to promote the detail although they are not as shiny as the photo due to the camera flash.  They are in excellent condition with perhaps a slight scratch here or there.

Center of doorknob hole to center of round portion of keyhole 2-1/8”  Note: Although there is a 1/16" difference in the spacing, these plates fit the Ceylon locks.
