Ornate Victorian Lever Doorbell Circa 1887

Stunning metal artistry adorns both the bell and lever of this fantastic antique doorbell! The pull has aged to an almost black iron patina while the bell dome retains a hint of the original bronze wash. This antique doorbell is sure to impress your guests! The bell sounds a hearty GONG each time the lever is pulled down. Attach a cord or chain to the bottom section (see photos) and you can have fun ringing it from inside the house as well!

This doorbell and lever were manufactured by Russell & Erwin in the late 1800s. The bell has the patent date of Feb. 25, 1879 embossed on the back. Both the bell and the lever are shown in the R & E 1887 catalog. A copy of the catalog pages will be included with the purchase of this item. All parts are made of heavy cast iron. The internal parts have been cleaned and oiled. A new steel spring was installed which appears rather crude but functions perfectly.
