Ornate Cast Brass Closet Turn Knob

In days long ago the knob inside a closet was a simple shaped grip rather than a full size doorknob but there is nothing simple about this one!  Whether you want to impress your guests as you open the coat closet or as a private joy for a bedroom closet, you’ll smile each time you open the door!

Exact age is unknown but I would estimate around 1910 +/-.  The grip and rosette are made of heavy cast brass.  I’ve polished the high points for the photo.  Left alone it will again turn the color of the grip.  This piece has an interesting feature built into the rosette.  Typically when a handle or knob is turned, the mortise lock itself returns it to position.  Here the rosette itself causes the grip to return – why, I don’t know.  Yet another antique hardware mystery :o)  It is easily disabled if you wish.
