This rim lock with just a touch of hobnail ornamentation was made by Russell & Erwin. It proudly bears their signature and patent dates of 1889 on the lock face. The door knobs repeat the hobnail detail on the fronts and have an egg & dart pattern on the backs. The antique rosette and shapely keyhole cover coordinate well. All parts were made in the late 1800s and even the antique mounting screws are provided!

This set has been completely cleaned, wire brushed and lacquer coated. The wrought iron lock has been taken apart, cleaned and operates perfectly. There is a little latch on bottom that locks the doorknobs from inside the room. The skeleton key throws the deadbolt from either side of the door. The other parts are thick heavy cast iron and the doorknobs show a bit of the original bronze wash in the recesses on top. The strike and deadbolt are bronze so there is a nice mix of silver metal with bronze accents. There is a little chip on the edge of the strike which does not impact anything. The lock is reversible for right or left hand doors depending on which side is mounted to the door face. To reverse the strike simply open the casing and turn it over.

Note: The skeleton key provided throws the deadbolt smoothly but is rather short. It will not work on a door thicker than 1 from the keyhole side. If your door is thicker (and it probably is) you would need to either have a welder lengthen the key shaft or go to your local locksmith to have another key made.
