This toadstool shaped doorknob design was one of the first used for glass and porcelain doorknobs. A bit trickier to install but worth the effort for authenticity of the early 1800’s. There are only a few minor scratches and discoloration on the porcelain tops as would be expected. The brass or bronze ferrules retain their original patina.
Now for the technical stuff! One doorknob has the spindle pinned (see arrow in photo). It appears that someone thought that drilling in the wrong place would release it from the door :o) The other doorknob requires a pin through the entire ferrule. The original pin was missing and I’ve included a steel replacement. A hole would need to be drilled in the spindle to accommodate the appropriate thickness of your door. Note that this spindle can only be used on a door 1-5/8” thick (maximum). If your door is thicker you will need to replace the entire spindle.
Doorknob is 2-1/4” in diameter
Ferrule is 1-5/8” diameter
Doorknobs sit 2” tall
