Complete Reading Cast Bronze Doorknob Set “Savoy”

The quality, patina and design of this antique doorknob set will absolutely take your breath away!  The sensuous foliate design is further enhanced by a light dusting of verdigris in the crevices.  It could be brushed off but I thought it was too beautiful to remove.  Made by Reading Hardware Company around the turn of the century, they named this pattern “Savoy”.

These pieces are made of exceptionally heavy cast bronze – each door plate alone weighs a bit under one pound.  The main photo makes the verdigris look more pronounced that it is.  The close up photos are a closer match.  As happens with antique door sets the knobs are lighter in color than the plates.   The original Reading lock has been completely restored (including repainting the casing) but the patina on the face was retained.    
Lock is reversible for right or left hand doors by opening the casing and flipping the strike over.  The key (with a charming little bend) is not original to the lock but works perfectly. A steel spindle with new brass set screws is included but not pictured.
