This wrought copper set was made (and signed) by Branford Lock Works around 1910. It has a very dainty border that reminds me of teardrops. The exterior glass knob has turned a light lavender from exposure to the sun. This is a beautiful set for those of you who want something smaller and dainty for knobs and plates but want the security of a full size entry lock.
The heavy wrought copper pieces are in excellent condition and the only issue I note is some scratching to the keyhole cover. Seems to indicate that eyesight was not that good 100+ years ago. The glass knob, with a brass shank, has no scratching or chips not even one flea bite! The strike plate was missing when I received this set but I was able to locate one that works. It has a couple of small dents but is still very serviceable. Original mounting screws for all parts are included but not pictured.
The lock has been completely restored and operates perfectly. It was taken apart and each interior mechanical piece was cleaned and oiled. While it was apart I painted the entire lock casing (inside and outside). Ive taken a photo of the lock and pieces prior to painting so you can see that there was no rust. The push buttons on the front of the lock are for locking the exterior knob to keep it from turning - which effectively locks the door from the outside. The interior doorknob still turns which allows the door to be opened from the inside. To enter the house from the outside when this function is engaged you would use a skeleton key for the upper keyhole to retract the strike and simply push the door open. Push the other button and both doorknobs turn. Additional security is provided with the deadbolt function which is operated by a lower skeleton key from either side of the door. I do not have keys for this lock so you will need to see your local locksmith to have them made. I guarantee all functions work with the proper keys. This lock is reversible for a right or left hand door and I will set it for you. Please let me know in the Comments section if your door opens in or out and, when you are standing on the side of the door where you can see the hinge barrels, are the hinges on your left or right?
This set will fit a door 1-3/8 to 2-1/2 thick. For a 1-3/8 door you would need to cut the spindle on the glass knob end since the spindle is limited in how far it can go into the knob shaft.
