Circa 1880 Ornate Cast Iron Letter Slot with Interior Plate

These antique mail slots were purchased with and without interior plates so it is hard to find a Sargent & Company set such as this. The details are quite lovely with Victorian swirls and each piece is quite shapely. It is made of strong cast iron and has been cleaned to remove old paint and rust. All sides were given a lacquer clear coat so it is ready to install on your historic front door.

This piece is in great condition for its age and the only issue is a crack at the screw hole of the interior piece. As you can see from the photo (it’s the hole on the lower left in the main photo and lower right showing the backs) it would be hard to see and with the screw in place it holds together just fine. I’ve included the proper antique screws for your convenience. The spring on the back is no longer functional and the flap now closes by gravity.

Exterior piece:  2-3/8” x 5-7/8” overall. Opening is 1-1/16” x 4-1/4” oval (inside area)
Interior piece: 2” x 6-1/4” overall. Opening is 1-1/4” x 4-1/2”
