Lots of the original bronze plating is still in place on this adorable screen door latch. It was made by P & F Corbin in the late 1800’s and they named the pattern simply “Diagonal”.  It has a rather Egyptian flair with a mix of geometrics and foliage with picketing around the border of the latch. The strike plate and rosette found with the set may be by another maker since they are a bit more ornate than my Corbin catalogs show.

All details are crisp and clear and the latch is in excellent working condition. The little finger lock provides night security. There is almost no wear to the bronze plating on the ornate strike plate and rosette.  The latch has retained most of the plating but it is more worn on the top. It has all worn off on the knobs except a small area on the shaft of one.  Original steel (with bronze plating) mounting screws are included. I’ve substituted 2 antique bronze screws for the exterior rosette since it might be exposed to the weather.

This latch is for an outward swinging door and could also be used for a pantry or small access door.  This set is installed with the lock and one knob surface mounted on the interior and the rosette with knob on the outside. The little strike plate is installed on the door stop molding or the door jamb.
