An elegant latch that can be used for an old icebox or a cabinet door. The patent date of June 29, 1897 is marked on the back along with a large “L” (left hand lock). The patent (#585,260) was filed by Harry H. Dent and Chas. C. Kaiser with their address noted as Allentown, PA. There was no hardware manufacturing company listed but a bit of research has revealed that Harry Dent established the Dent Hardware Company in 1894. The Dent Hardware Company Factory Complex at 1101 Third Street, Whitehall, PA is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In excellent condition with original caramel patina. There is no key or catch/receiver.
