Unlike the mineral clay antique doorknobs that are frequently (and incorrectly) referred to as “Bennington”, this one is the authentic original and very rare. In order for a knob to be a Bennington knob its body must be cream colored. With the variegated (swirled) mineral clay knobs the body is red clay. The Bennington knobs have either a Rockingham or Flint Enamel glaze. This one has the Rockingham glaze which is characterized by a mottled appearance. The glaze is applied by spattering, dripping, sponging or brushing in an uneven manner, allowing the cream colored body to remain exposed as the underlying color. Rockingham knobs were made in a number of potteries in addition to Bennington Pottery.

This doorknob is in exceptional condition with no chips or scratches. The iron rod is firmly imbedded.

Top of knob measures 2-1/4 from point to point
Base is 2-1/8” diameter
Overall length of iron rod 2-1/8”
Threaded portion of iron rod 3/4”
