Antique Turn of the Century Copper Tiger Stripe Twist Doorbell

This beautifully preserved doorbell set is absolutely stunning! Very little of the original black and copper japanned finish has been lost and it has been lacquered to protect it. The pieces were not found together but I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a match made in heaven. The twist was made by P & F Corbin in 1905 and they named the pattern Mantua. I do not believe it has ever been used but the original finish had dulled from storage and my new lacquer makes it just glow. The bell, by Sargent & Company from the same time period, has some slight wear to the finish (less visible in person than in the photos) but the remarkable copper & black just shines with the new lacquer.

Although the bell dome looks copper it is brass under the japanned finish. The base is heavy cast iron and the twist is made of wrought steel with, again, the japanned copper/black finish. The internal parts have been cleaned and oiled and operate smoothly. Matching slotted screws for the twist plate are included but not pictured. The bell is set up to be mounted on your door or wall with the bell inside and the twist outside. Please note that the bell and twist do not mount center to center so please be sure you have adequate room to mount both pieces. The hole in the bell for the rod is about 3/4” off center.
