During the Victorian era this country was enthralled by home dιcor that featured Oriental, Egyptian and Persian themes. This design was patented by Mallory, Wheeler on December 31, 1889. The patent term was for 7 years and the patent states that the wavy lines represent agitated water with the central design being Arabic. My research has found that the central symbol is representative of Ali in Arabic. Ali was a friend (or disciple) of Mohammad.

These sets show the cast metal artistry that Mallory, Wheeler is so well known for. The detail is stunning and covers both the fronts and backs of the doorknobs. These pieces also show an interesting mix of metal colors. It appears that a silver colored metal (white brass, perhaps?) once had bronze plating on the raised portions.

The knobs and rosettes show various color patterns due to light wear. When ordering please indicate which doorknob set you choose by putting the appropriate number in the Comments section at checkout. Set #1 has bronze high area color; Set #2 has mixed silver and bronze color; Set 3 is almost all silver colored.

Price is for one set of 2 doorknobs, 2 rosettes and a steel spindle (not pictured) with new brass set screws. A copy of the patent will accompany your order.

Rosettes: 1-7/8” diameter
Doorknobs: 2-1/4” diameter
