Antique Doorknob Set - Art Nouveau “Breton”

Deeply incised undulating curves make this set a real treasure! Solid heavy metal casting denotes the high quality of this antique artistic hardware. The doorplates are made by Russell & Erwin in their 1909 “Breton” design and are signed on the backs. The oval knobs (Corbin 1905 “Marselles”) are a perfect compliment.

What makes this set really spectacular is what appears to be a mix of different metals on the door plates. It’s impossible to tell for sure without polishing them (and I really hate to lose the patina!) but the base casting appears to be brass with a copper or bronze plating. One plate has more of a coppery hue than the other.

A square steel spindle with new brass set screws is included (not pictured).
