Sometimes known as Ebony, Jet or Aradh knobs, these glossy black doorknobs are made of red mineral clay that has a thick black glaze - similar to a ceramic item. These knobs are for use with an antique rim lock and were used from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s. The flared shaft goes against the surface mounted lock and the straight shaft goes in a rosette for the other side of the door.

With a bit of work these doorknobs are definitely usable. Two sets have the set screws stuck in the spindle and the screw would need to be drilled out. You might only have to do so on one knob of each set depending on your door thickness. After all, the spindle is where it’s supposed to be – in the knob. I’ve included 4 new steel set screws that fit a 10/32 tap. The glaze is still in pretty good condition with only a few little flea bites and a scuff on one. They do need to be cleaned up though. The set screws on the third set (at the top of the photo) can be easily removed but one knob has some roughness from rust on the shaft and the other has a chip to the glaze. Paint the chip black and have it facing down and you’ll hardly notice it - if at all.

The above price is for all the items pictured.
