At the point of salvage from a 1970s farm house in Pennsylvania all this door hardware was covered with paint and rust. Everything (even the screws) was cleaned and the cast iron parts were given a light coat of lacquer to preserve them. Everything is included even the original iron screws. You cant buy those at your local hardware store! And, speaking of screws, enlarge the photo of the latch mechanism pieces and note that there are screw heads embossed in the metal to indicate where screws would be used!
This set is an excellent choice for a screen door but would look charming for interior use as well. The pieces will need additional paint (the latch was originally black) or lacquer for use outdoors. Please note that all pieces are a dark grey/black color.
The latch is also reversible for a right or left hand door and installation is very simple. The door handle is mounted on the outside of the door with the prong going through an elongated hole in the door. The bar/lock mechanism is mounted on the other side of the door with the elongated hole in the metal going over the hole in the door. The prong from the door handle comes through to lift the bar when the thumb latch is pushed down. From the other side the prong serves as a handle. The door can be locked by rotating the privacy lock which keeps the bar from being raised by the thumb latch. Photos show it in the unlocked position in the main photo and locked in the close-up. The keeper is mounted on the door jamb so that the bar rests in the top notch when door is closed.
This set will fit doors up to 1-3/8 thick.
Handle: 6-1/2 tall x 1-5/8 wide
Off-side Latch: 4-1/8 x 2-1/2
